Sadly, many of the tools available today are complete junk but there's also some genuinely SUPERB software available quite cheaply.

Spyware Doctor is light years ahead of it's competition. It's packed with the latest tools to prevent spyware attacks, hijacks and every other threat. And it's scanning and removal engine finds and removes more problems than any other tool. Along with daily updates and a very easy-to-use interface. I can't say enough good things about this program. It's fantastic.

Second place definitely goes to STOPzilla. A real gem from a long running software company. A simple, well-thought-out interface, superb scanning engine and lots of beefy ongoing protection. Not quite as Spyware Doctor however.

Spyware Detector was my number one choice of tool for a long time. It's got a great interface and is packed with chunky realtime protection. It's regular updates and thorough scans ensure a huge amount of spyware protection for any computer.

A genuine, well-thought-out spyware scanner with good realtime protection built in. Very easy to use. Not quite on par with the above tools however and slightly unfair pricing if you're in the UK.
